The purpose of this project was to build a bridge for Alabama Rural Ministry to be able to more easily bring their tools and equipment to their trucks for construction projects.  There is a 18' wide trench that was making it inconvenient for the workers, and could make it dangerous to maneuver heavy equipment.  When it rains this trench would fill with water and become a hazard.  This project gave us a lot of experience in wood-cutting, coordinating angles, measuring, working with tools, and taught us to adapt and think critically. Class experiences helped with calculating deflection, and allowable stress to apply the right supports and sizes to the bridge. Building this bridge was a good learning experience and an opportunity to contribute to the Opelika community in a positive way.
